How to apply mascara? - Eye Makeup


Tips for applying mascara on your eye lids and make them look more dashing. Mascara goes better under the fan. The lashes do not gum together due to air. Cover the brush with a light coating of mascara and stroke it on the lashes working from the base to the tips. The lower lashes should be tinted with colour. When the first coat is dry apply the second one.

Mascara Applying Tips

Tips for applying eye mascara:

  • If your mascara is new and the deposit on the corners is plentiful, tissue off the wand before applying to prevent smudging
  • Never curl your eyelashes after applying mascara because they can stick to the pad on curler.
  • Contact lens wearer should use waterproof mascara's formula as there is minimum chance of any flakes getting into the eyes.
  • Always remove mascara before going to bed. This will keep lashes healthier
  • While removing the mascara, avoid the color from going on to the delicate area below the bottom lashes and close your eyes. Roll a cotton bud dipped in cosmetic cleaner over the lashes, taking mascara down on the tissues. Repeat this until all mascara removes.

Forms of Mascara

They are three forms of Mascara.

  1. Water based :- Water based mascaras can be applied quickly and removed easily. So they are gentle to the lashes and eyes. But they won't stay for a long time, as the mascara smudges easily when it comes into contact with water, tears and perspiration.
  2. Water proof :- Water proof variety stay for a long time and is water proof and smudge proof. They are a good investment as they are resistant to contamination and can be used even years after they have been manufactured. But it takes a long time to dry and is difficult to remove the liner.
  3. Mixed variety :- is a combination of water based and water proof mascaras. These dry quickly and is easy to remove.

To Remove the Mascara

Mascara must be removed very carefully to avoid damaging the delicate skin around the eyes. Try removing the final traces of mascara with a cotton bud dipped in cleanser. While removing the mascara avoid the colour from going onto the delicate area below the bottom lashes. Hold a tissue under the bottom lashes and close your eyes. Roll a cotton bud dipped in a cosmetic cleanser over the lashes, taking the mascara down onto the tissue. Repeat till all the mascara is gone
