Nail Care Tips at Home

Your nails are a part of your body too so you must take good care of them. Giving your nails a manicure is a good way to take care of them and pamper them. A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands. A standard manicure usually includes filing and shaping of the nails and the application of polish, but there are also speciality manicures. Treatments for hands usually include soaking in a softening substance and application of hand lotion. A similar treatment performed on the feet is called pedicure. Manicures often include the filing, polishing, and painting of fingernails.

A manicure may also include some nail art process the application of artificial nail tips, acrylics or artificial nail gels. Nail health include keeping nails clean and dry to keep bacteria and other infectious organisms from collecting under the nails, cutting nails straight across with only slight rounding at the tip, using a fine-textured file to keep nails shaped and free of snags, and avoiding nail-biting. It is a good idea to soak toenails that are thick and difficult to cut in warm salt water (1 tsp. salt to 1 pint of water) for 5 to 10 minutes, and apply a 10 percent urea cream before trimming.

Soften nails and cuticles in a bowl of hot water mixed with cuticle oil, olive oil or system lotion. After 10 minutes of soaking, arid away and use cuticle ointment or lotion. Gently alleviate cuticles backwards by making small circles against the cuticle with an orangewood pin wrapped in cotton. Rub cuticles with a hot, wet washcloth in the same mild manner. “The circular movement helps slough off that light-colored membrane, which is asleep cuticle rind. Never take clippers to withdraw your cuticles. You should never reduce cuticles, simply drive them backwards. Cutting may scatter bacterium and induce transmission and puffiness.

Wearing a topcoat also can keep your nails healthy: “It helps prevent water loss. Trim nails only with nail clippers. Nail files give the most adequate shape for every type of nail. Making the edge smooth is best, nail filing from top to bottom and the other way round in order to avoid nails scabbing. Do not use files to trim as this will weaken the nail. Also, do not file the sides or top of the nail. To avoid getting air bubbles in nail polish, do not shake the bottles. Instead, roll them between your hands to mix. Prevent hangnails by using a good moisturizer such as hand lotion. Use petroleum jelly before you go to bed and cover your hands with socks at night.
