Eye Stye - How to Treat Eye Sty



Stye or sty is an infection of eyes where gland at eyelid becomes infected. Eye Stye is a very common type of infection of the hair follicle of an eyelash, resembling a sore similar to a boil or a pimple in the gland at the edge of the eyelid which leads to blockage of the hair follicles that may become swollen, nuisance and painful to the touch. Some styes may be related to rubbing the eye with the dirty hand. However, recurrent infection may be due to some constitutional causes. Eye stye occurs when staphylococcal bacteria infect one of the tiny glands at the base of the eyelid hairs and then becomes inflamed. It is commonly found as small bumps on the base of eyelids. This disease does not affect the vision. Sometimes tiny pimples are developing in this disease.

  • Severe pain on the eyelid
  • Swelling on the affected area
  • Blurred vision
  • Stinging, burning and itching on the affected area.

Home Remedies To Treat A Eye Stye

  • Use alum water to wash your eyes. This gives relief in stye. To prepare the solution, mix 2-3 granules of alum in a cup of water.
  • Make paste with potato, spread it on a cloth and apply it externally on inflamed eyes to reduce swelling.
  • Take some guava leaves , and placed it on the warm cloth. Use it as compress for few minutes. This is very helpful to reduce the pain, swelling and redness.
  • Take one cup of water and a teaspoon of coriander seeds. Boil seeds with water for few minutes. And then use this to wash the eyes several times a day.
  • 1 tsp of coriander seeds should be boiled in a cup of water. Use this preparation to wash the eyes 3-4 times a day.

Eye stye Treatment - Effective Home Remedies

  • Hot compress should be applied to the affected eye three or four times a day.
  • Styes can be treated at home by applying a very warm, wet, clean wash cloth to the tender area
  • Keep the eyelids clean and oil free.
  • Application of prescribed antibiotic drops may also be used to help fight the infection
  • Surgical drainage of the stye may also be necessary if the stye is not responding to treatment

Preventions tips for eye stye

Some of the preventive measures against eye sty are as follows:

  • You should apply warm compresses for few minutes regularly.
  • You should apply antibiotic drops to fight the infection.
  • You should keep good hygiene.
  • If you have multiple eye styes, go to the general physician immediately.
  • Don't rub your with contaminated hands.
  • You should protect your eyes from air pollution and dust.
  • You should wear sunglasses before going outside.
